The aim of this award is to give the student the knowledge to be safe in and around the sea. This is important for our club due to being land locked area.

Rescue Principles

This award has the following elements

1. Explain what lifeguards do and why their job is important
2. Explain why teamwork is important for lifeguards and demonstrate teamwork
3. State what uniform lifeguards wear and why they wear uniform
4. Explain the most important part of a lifeguard's duties
5. Define a zone and explain why swimming areas are zoned
6. Explain the difference between a lifesaver and a lifeguard
7. Explain what is meant by scanning

Sea Awareness

This award has the following elements

1. Explain how to recognise a dumping wave, a spilling wave, and a surging wave
2. Explain what a rip current is, how to recognise one and what to do if caught in one
3. Explain and, if possible demonstrate how to dive safely through waves
4. Explain how to protect yourself in waves
5. Explain how to catch a wave
