of paddle craft safely for fun and it's role in a rescue
Body Board
This award has the following elements
- Explain what the body board is and what it can be used for
- Demonstrate how to get onto a body board
- Find the best position on a body board
- Demonstrate two techniques for steering a body board
- Paddle 50 meters on a body board wearing fins
- Paddle 50 meters to a conscious casualty and perform a swim and tow
rescue for 50 meters
- Paddle 50 meters to an unconscious casualty and perform a roll on rescue
and kick 25 meters to the side
- Give Rescue Breathing to an unconscious casualty using the body board
- Demonstrate how to paddle in waves
Rescue Ski
This award has the following elements
- Explain what a paddle is and demonstrate how to use one
- Paddle 100 meters on a rescue ski
- Demonstrate how to turn a rescue ski left, right and 180
- Name and describe the different parts of the rescue ski
- Paddle 50 meters to rescue a conscious casualty and return
- Demonstrate how to right and re-mount a ski
- Demonstrate how to face a wave on a ski
Rescue Board
This award has the following elements
- Explain why rescue boards are useful pieces of equipment for lifeguards
- Demonstrate how to paddle kneeling and lying down
- Demonstrate Butterfly and Front Crawl arm movements
- Demonstrate how to turn a rescue board left, right and 180
- Paddle 100 meters on a rescue board
- Paddle 50 meters to rescue a conscious casualty and return
- Demonstrate how to rescue an unconscious casualty
- Demonstrate how to face a wave on a board.
